


Carl Schimmel G'07 is a PhD student in music composition. As part of his assistantship, he composes recital pieces for undergraduates, giving many of them their first chance to work with a living composer. Carl has been writing music since the age of 12, and today, his compositions are winning national awards and being performed around the globe. "When you're in the arts or entering academia, you can't expect to make much money. Financial aid lets graduate students take risks we might not otherwise be able to take."
