Final Report
President's Message
The Campaign for Duke is over, and our university is stronger because
of it. Students and faculty members in each of our schools—as
well as Duke libraries, athletics, arts programs, patients, religious
communities, and neighborhood partnerships—have benefited
from the generosity of our donors. These benefits will continue
to grow and expand over the years to come.
The campaign enhanced the lives of countless individuals, a few
of whom are cited in the preceding pages. Those few are meant, of
course, to represent all of us, and generations still to come. Future
societies will benefit from knowledge gained here; students everywhere
will learn from Duke teachers; patients will be treated by people
trained and interventions developed at Duke.
Those people and purposes are the reasons that we sought $2 billion,
and raised even more. Our success is important because it contributes
to those ends and, as we wished from the outset, improves the quality
of life of people everywhere.
A great many people are responsible for the campaign’s success.
Ginny and Pete Nicholas, our devoted and generous campaign chairs,
are prominent among the thousands of volunteers and donors, just
as Senior Vice President John Piva, concluding his long Duke career,
stands for the hard-working staff that he led so ably.
For me, the Campaign for Duke has been a joyous opportunity to
work in partnership with so many who care so much for Duke University.
I am very grateful.

Nannerl O. Keohane
