The Heritage Society

The Heritage Society at Duke University honors alumni and friends who have included Duke in their estate plans or have made some other type of planned gift to Duke.

It is no exaggeration to say that Duke is the university we know today because James Buchanan Duke had foresight and great expectations for a college he cared for and a keen sense of how to manage his assets to ensure his family's financial well-being. He defined his bequest during his lifetime, and it produced what he had planned. While few Duke supporters can approach the magnitude of Mr. Duke's bequest, many of Duke's alumni and friends can have a meaningful impact on the future of this university by supporting it with a deferred gift. There is no question that such giving is as vital to the university's future as it was in its past.

If you have planned an estate or life income gift to benefit Duke, we would be honored to add you to the rolls of the Heritage Society. Sarah Fish is Duke's Director of Trust and Estate Administration. She can be reached at sarah.fish@dev.duke.edu or (919) 681-0462.

Leave Behind a Legacy

Duke's Office of Gift Planning is glad to work with you to identify the school, area, or program that is most meaningful to you. If your gift meets certain minimum funding levels, you can establish a named endowment fund, such as a scholarship, fellowship, professorship, or research fund. Endowment gifts serve as permanent, renewable sources of funding for the university. Learn more.
