Michael Rhodes B.S.E.’87 witnesses the impact of big data every day at financial services company TD Bank Group. “I think the emergence of information and big data will be as transformational for our economy as the Industrial Revolution was during its time,” said Rhodes. He and his wife, Maureen, made a $1.667 million gift to the Pratt School of Engineering. This leveraged $833,000 from the Bass Challenge to create a full professorship at the $2.5 million level.

The Rhodes Professor will help coordinate activity within the Information, Society & Culture theme, as well as provide leadership as a member of Duke’s Information Initiative (iiD). He or she will lead faculty and students in grappling with topics like machine learning and control systems, and image and signal processing.
