Duke alumni and friends connect in St. Louis
On Wednesday, March 27, Duke’s Office of Gift Planning partnered with Gregg ‘79 and Susan Berdy to host an evening reception at the Westwood Country Club in St. Louis, MO. It was a pleasure to host over 30 Duke alumni and friends for cocktails and conversation.
Our keynote speaker, Nicole Schramm-Sapyta, Ph.D., is the chief operating officer for the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences (DIBS). The mission of DIBS is to promote interdisciplinary brain science and translate discoveries into solutions for health and society.
Dr. Schramm-Sapyta discussed her research on the causes and consequences of drug addiction and more specifically, the opioid epidemic in America. Following Dr. Schramm-Sapyta’s remarks, there was a lively question and answer session spanning issues of policy, legality and science.
The Office of Gift Planning hosts this and other regional events as a way to thank Duke donors and members of the Duke Heritage Society. The Duke Heritage Society honors alumni and friends who have made planned gifts – such as bequests, IRA designations, or charitable gift annuities – to benefit Duke University.
