Local Duke donors connect at Sarah P. Duke Gardens

On Friday, November 2nd, the Office of Gift Planning hosted a Duke Heritage Society breakfast at Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham. It was a pleasure to spend the morning with so many friends and Duke supporters.

We are especially grateful to Gardens volunteer, Peggy Landini, for sharing what the Gardens means to her and why she has chosen to support this special place with a planned gift.

“I want my estate plan to reflect what’s important to me in life,” said Ms. Landini. “My bequests target those experiences that have been inspirational for me and that I believe can make a difference for others. Duke Gardens is just such an experience. It’s one of those magical places where people can come and experience true wonder and perhaps an “ah-ha” moment in their lives.”

We were also honored that Jan Little, Director of Education and Public Programs for Sarah P. Duke Gardens, was able to join us and share insights about the health and wellness benefits of nature. Her presentation provided a wonderful reminder of all the ways Duke Gardens contributes to the local community and beyond. It makes each of us proud to be connected to the Gardens – whether as a student, alumni, parent or friend.

The Office of Gift Planning hosts this and other regional events as a way to thank Duke donors and members of the Duke Heritage Society. The Duke Heritage Society honors alumni and friends who have made planned gifts – such as bequests, IRA designations, or charitable gift annuities – to benefit Duke University.

Duke would not be the internationally renowned institution it is today without the generosity of alumni and friends like you. On behalf of all of us at Duke, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for your commitment to this special place.
