Maximize Your Impact: The Benefits of Qualified Charitable Distributions at Duke

A qualified charitable distribution, or “QCD,” can be an easy and tax-efficient way to make an immediate impact at Duke. Taxpayers who are 70 ½ or older can support Duke people, places, and programs using a tax-free transfer from a traditional IRA.

Benefits of a QCD gift:

  • Transfer up to $105,000 in QCDs in 2024. This dollar limit changes annually.
  • Satisfy some or all of your annual required minimum distribution (RMD) if you are at least 73 years old.
  • Avoid or defer additional taxable income, which may allow you to avoid a higher tax bracket.
  • Direct your gift to support the areas at Duke you care about most.
  • Choose your impact: QCDs can be used to provide expendable support, satisfy multiyear commitments, or establish your own named scholarship.
