News you can use: Matching gifts are an ideal way to support charity

Common benefits companies offer employees include paid vacation, health insurance, and retirement plans. Many employers also provide a lesser-known benefit to its employees: a matching gift program to support charity. For donors looking to increase their charitable donations, a matching gift program is an ideal way to support their favorite nonprofits.

A recent Thousand Oaks Acorn article describes the significant impact matching gifts can have on nonprofit organizations. According to the article, “charitable giving by individuals makes up the vast majority of contributions received by nonprofit organizations. A Giving USA 2015 study estimates that individual giving accounted for 72 percent of all contributions received by nonprofits in 2014.”

Since program guidelines can vary from company to company, it’s important to check with your organization’s human resources department to see whether it offers a matching gift program. You may also search Duke’s online database to see if your company is currently participating in one.

Whether you would like to support Duke or another non-profit, a company matching gift program can be an excellent way to increase your donations for a good cause. To learn more about a matching gift to support Duke, please contact a member of our team.
